NIgg**H Please!

Here at Henry Hate Headquarters we have had a good throwdown in a while. I have been a little under the grey cloud trying to figure stuff out in my head. Yet it's the trhill of music that always gets me in a bettre mood. We haven't had any good wigs or double knit pant suits in a while. So I thought I would put this little crowd pleaser on as it always put me in a party mood. What better way to enjoy Ol' Dirty Bastard "Baby Got Yer Money" and the blaxploitation calssic Dolemite. Enjoy!

Infante Terrible De Danse.

My self and my partner are huge fans of David Bowie, I have my aunt Jane to thanks for that. Because of her, the seed was planted. I was fortunate enough to get two tickets to the sold out show at the Barbican to watch The Michael Clark Company preform " Come Been Gone" an homage of Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and David Bowie. Bren had never seen them preform so I made sure he go to see this show. I was more than excited to see the person whom put dance to Mark E. Smith's music. He didn't disappoint. Clark has always been on the fringes of contemporary dance with his rock and roll swagger and his bad boy reputation. So, this performance certainly did sweeten the pot to a hall full of people, wanting to see his return to form.

Broken in three performances, the sound track included his love for The Fall, Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop, and the show stopping Bowie. The first time I heard of Michael Clark was through the performance art of Leigh Bowery, whom collaborated together often and were close friends. This was, B.H. Before Henry Hate came to London. I can say that with this sow travelling around, it is worth a look to anyone into the music. Spiked with humour and excellent precision, Michael Clarks company delivered the goods, with a homage to a time gone past, and a selection of Bowies, Berlin era and the epic "Heroes," it virtually moves you. I thought this was a valentine to his youth and the music of that time. Even the programme was issued in a mock glossy 45' record sleeve, complete with the three rock heroes on the cover. The show ends with a favourite of mine "Jean Jeanie, that took me back to my childhood and my first arrival here in London in 98, dancing in the basement of club of Madame Jo Jo's night Kitsch Bitch 11 years ago. It did inspire me visually as the dancers were somewhat Asexual rather than asserting roles of man and woman. If you get the chance go, even if you're not a fan of contemporary dance, you'll be glad you did. Even if you just want to look at nice asses in titght costumes designed Body Map.

So let's here this opus to a youth and Berlin. Enjoy..
For Bren. Not that I want to move to Berlin and get strung out on smack while turning tricks in a subway terminal. But still a great Film.

Culture For Vultures!

Here are my current Picks of Book, Movie and Music at the mo. Being that I have alot going on at the moment and trying to no become a certified bee keeper. Yes, you heard right, I am harvesting honey bees and have my own swarms. Haven't you heard Bee keeping is the new rock and roll people, so get with the program. So any mother fucker whom says you can catch more bees with honey than vinegar, better come talk to me first. So I am going to do my part and try to help out the bee population and make my own honey pot. So when they say I have a bee in my bonnet you nest fucking believe it. But here are my picks of the mo for you to check out.

Movie: Reform School Girls. Love this movie and love Wendy O' Williams. Always loved those bimbo's behind bars genre flicks. So make with the Extra Hold Aqua Net and teasing comb. Pat Ast turns in a stellar performance and with loads of good one liners to stock up on.

Music: Oxes Oxxes Cd.. Monitor records I was listening to this the other day and really forget what a great band they are. My partner is not a fan but I crank this shit up at work and find my creative flow when I am working to get my creative juices going. I made a baby cry and a woman asked me to take the music off in the shop. My reply was "look lady, I don't ask you to fucking shut your kid up when your at home. So I would appreciate it if you do the same in my establishment. Please take that child outside if you don't like it!" Well I said please, and it wasn't court ordered. Not like I sent a swarm of bees on her and the squealing brat.

Book: Shit Magnet By Jim Goad. Brilliant and funny writer and co founder of the seminal Answer Me. Brutal honesty and read through this three times over the years, A must have for any man trying to deal with his own personal demons.

A Valentine From Mick Jones!

If you think of two words that appropriate the oil and water ideology it's Rock N' Roll and the word Library. You know those big old pesky halls filled with books and loads of somewhat unattractive people behind self imposing desks telling you to be quiet. I was always told to shut my pie hole in the library, but thaat's no surprise to you lot. Mick Jones of the Clash and Big Audio Dynamite and Carbon Sillicon, has once again opend his treasure trove to the rumoured breeding ground where it is said the Clash had formed. To me it's the perfect place and a Valentine from Mick, nestled directly across the street from Portobello Green Market. With this entire collection housed in a lock up for nearly 17 years, it is open for anyone free of charge to enjoy.

The exhibition is directly under the Westway and give you a glimpse to the history of the band, the area, and the hodgepodge that is Portobello. Portobello has a long history of Raggae and Dub and music scene, and with the Notting Hill Carnival coming at the end of the month, again Mick shows imppecable timing. Records, Movies, Set Lists, Toys and his large Library of Books, Magazines, Fanzines (all Original first Editions). I swear I all most passed out from delirium and sheer excitement and utter envy. I haven't been this giddy since I was spit roasted back to back at the back of Cuff's Leather Bar in Silverlake circa 1995. The entire collection is there for you to read and scan, with memory sticks for sale your fingers can litterally do the walking in this library. The idea is fucking genious. Being that my own pooch is a lover of fine culture she was allowed to enter the 3000 square foot exhibition and partake in all it's splendour.

Doling out Library cards that are also sure to be collectors items and fanznes and t-shirt's for sale, there is someting of interest for everyone. As the Library is only set up for a short time. There are also films and Docmentaries playing in the screening room of the exhibition. Over the weekend Viv Albertine was on hand to to give a history of The Slits. Upon leaving I felt this wasn't just a thank you to the Portobello Market area, Gazza's House Of Rockin Blues and the other attributes that was the breeding ground to Mick, Joe, Paul and Nick..but a time where you really weren't unindated with loads of corperate crap. Slogan's of DIY and starting revolutions and to feel free to make a souviner from the collection run through out the entire collection. Prompting the viewer to simply thnk outside the box and well, do something. The Library closes it's dorrs in August 23rd and is open weds-sunday and is free from 11am-7pm.. At Ladbroke Grove Tube Station and a brisk walk under the Westway, at 2 Acklam Road, it's a perfect way to soend a lazy day and then on to the market to start your very own collection. Being that when I moved to the Portobello/Notting Hill area nearly 7 years ago I have seen it change considerably. This is a testament to the hood of Portobello's greatness and legacy. By any means get your ass down there.

Heavy Metal Redux!

Every so often I come across a showcase of people in what can only be described as something between a look and get up, sitting on the tube. So I take time to seize the moment and relish the memory. When I saw this guy it brought me back to high school and 1986 siting in the parking lot drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon and feathering my hair. I loved Heavy Metal Parking lot when I saw it the first time back in 95 courtesy of the Guys at the now defunct Mondo Video Au Go Go in Vermont.. Now you too can own a copy on DVD.
